I am lucky to get four weeks of paid vacation a year, aka 20 days. I'm taking 12 of them this month. It's a little hectic trying to to keep up with work in spurts when I'm there, but lots of other people go on vacation this time of year so at least I'm not the only one.
we went on our annual float trip to missouri with my old friends. the sunburns were real. the day started out cloudy and rainy so we were caught off-guard and kind of forgot to sunscreen up, then noticed too late that it had become sunny around noon. oops. but we had a nice time in the river. on the way home we went through kansas city, hit some museums and spent a day at worlds of fun. the lines weren't too bad so josie got to ride all the roller coasters 4-6 times, she'd go with marc, then go with me. olive is tall enough to ride roller coasters but not into it. she wanted to hang out in snoopy land. she'll only ride a roller coaster if it's shaped like a caterpillar.
then I worked for a week, then we left for florida. pre-pandemic we'd taken advantage of the cheap allegiant flight that's set up between wichita and destin and the kids had great memories of it and wanted to go back, so we did. the whole family got to fly down for under $500! you have to be crafty, pack light, everybody gets a backpack that fits under a seat and nothing else. I'm surprised they let the kids have a blanket too but it worked. then you get down there and rent a condo by the beach and those are all crazy expensive but we did four nights and spent every day bouncing between the ocean and the pool. there was one rainy day we went to a science museum, but in the afternoon the rain held off. we got olive a boogie board and she figured out how to stand in knee-deep water until a wave came, then she'd ride it into the sand. at night we looked for crabs and sand fleas and josie got pretty good at spotting tiny ghost crabs.
so that's one reason why I haven't updated much, just lots of running around. a friend vacation, a just us vacation, next up there's a family vacation with my sister.
