sister trip
Apr. 24th, 2022 08:50 pmmy sister and I just got back from our 2nd annual mother's day sister trip! I say "annual" lightly since we went on one trip in 2019 and then pandemic dreamed away until this year... you know how the world is.
for this trip, we looked at a few of our favorite comedians and podcasts and found that jackie kashun was doing a live dork forest at a comedy festival in austin tx. Austin is an 8 hour drive from Wichita. our last trip we drove to denver - same distance, and the drive was just lovely, a great time to chat. so we opted to drive!
this drive ended up being like 10-12 hours because we got stuck in fort worth traffic for EVER and my car kinda freaked out in an "that's another entry" way, so by the time we got to austin we were tired, it was night, we were scared of getting stuck in more traffic, the anxiety was real. I hated driving in austin. it's this weird combination of being too crowded for everyone to have a car, but there's not enough public transportation so everyone needs a car.
wichita is just so nice about that. it's big enough to have all the stores I need, 400K people. wichita always has parking, and tables at restaurants, and highways where traffic moves. Austin claims to be just under 1M people but it feels BIGGER and more sprawling. it feels like 5 wichitas not 2.
we had a list of recommended restaurants that we didn't get to, because we'd go to one, find no place to park, and eat where we found parking. we had a nice day on congress street, I went for a good run along some trails, we toured the thinkery science museum and the blanton museum of art. we ate tacos and sushi and strolled down congress st and we tried to see some bats that live under a bridge and come out at dusk, but the bats weren't feeling it that night.
the dork forest live podcast was awesome.
the 3rd night we spent in dallas to split up the trip, we got to meet up with a long lost cousin and took her out for a nice dinner at a downtown ramen place. she drove.
lots of great quality time with my sister but next time we might opt for something more relaxing, lay on a beach or something.
