okay this sucks. it sucks so much I waited a full 24 hours to post about it, so I could mentally calm myself and write.

I am booked to go on a work trip to Australia on Sunday. I have campaigned for this for years, there's a conference, I have customers that love our airplanes, I am so excited I can barely stand it.

My husband went on a trip to another conference last weekend.

He got home late monday night. I was asleep. He crawled in bed next to me. In the morning he was really sniffy, so he took a covid test that was immediately positive.

wtf dude.

so this once-in-a-lifetime trip is a huge question mark now.

we are masking in the house, I am upstairs and he is sleeping in the basement and downstairs. No bathroom sharing, no room sharing, no talking.

I have a PCR test scheduled Friday and home tests to take before I go, but can I dodge this? When it's apparently very contagious, and I haven't had a booster since before I had covid in January?

and if everybody's getting it again now, am I also just going to get it AGAIN?

ahhhhh!

I realize people have suffered real losses due to covid, I am not meaning to wave that away. but can I mourn this trip?

I am really upset.

I hope you managed to miss the bug and not the trip!
And, you have every right to morn it. It means a lot to you. What others may have lost does not stop it from morning this.

Hopefully you will dodge it. My daughter and I got it and neither my husband or son did.

It is not just people, but opportunities, which should be mourned by the infuriating carelessness of the world powers in handling this. Better communication amounted to NOTHING in comparison to 1918's pandemic. Yes we are a more mobile people, but we HAD BETTER WAYS to communicate.

Yes, you can mourn this trip. Also, you may maim, but not kill the husband.

Yup, mourn it if it comes to that. Our whole household had COVID except for Elizabeth lately, she dodged it after getting it in the spring (and not passing it to us). Still, the timing might have made it all various sorts of Omicron, which might have helped? In any case, you're not doomed? Maybe your antibodies will help you too!

Crossing all the fingers you don't get it! I know a lot of people who had it in their household and didn't catch it, others got it and don't even know where... this is weird shit. I hope so much you get to do the trip and stay healthy!

It's not unheard of for someone in the same household not to get covid, so fingers crossed you can dodge it! And you can totally mourn the loss of a trip (but let's hope it doesn't come to that!)

Fingers crossed for you, it would really suck to miss the conference, and you are totally allowed to mourn it if you don't get to go!

My sister had it a few weeks ago and did not isolate herself from her boyfriend (who she lives with) in any way, and he did not get it. So there is definitely hope for you! Good luck!

we got back from our trip to India. Hubby tested positive 2 days in. We should have probably tested the day we landed but thought the fatigue was from jet lag and 24 hours of travel. D nor I have caught it - we tested with a PCR test a few days after and rapid tests at home. He has been isolating in the basement and wears a mask if he comes up for food and drink. He doesn't cook. So, hang in there.

D has a big milestone trip coming up Sunday!! So, he will stay away just as an added precaution. So, there's hope!! I really wish that for you! I'd be so upset as well! sigh.

I hope it bypasses you! It would be really hard to miss such a big trip. One of my granddaughters had it late in July, but neither or her sisters and neither of her parents caught it even though she actually slept with her mother the night before she tested positive. After the test they kept her in a separate room from the rest of the family, but they live in a two bedroom apartment so the separation wasn't very separate.

I would have suggested one of you going to a hotel, to be honest. But it's already Friday as I read this. I really hope you'll be okay.
