I haven't done a public entry in a bit so I'll make this one just to tell online retailers, in case they're listening, that I hate them.

Here's the pattern:

Me: visit a website to look at things

Site: Giant popup! JOIN OUR EMAIL LIST!

Me: Can I just look at the things? How do I know I want to join your email list if I don't know what you have? Where's the tiny close button? Oh there it is... I had to wait for a delay for it to show up, and now it's nearly invisible, but I found it! okay!

Site: THERE'S STILL A CODE YOU CAN GET IF YOU JOIN OUR LIST AND IT'S WORTH 3.2% OFF!

Me: I'll pass. But I like these socks. I'm going to buy these socks.

Site: GREAT WE'LL PUT YOU ON OUR EMAIL LIST!

Me: No, I'm unchecking that box.

Site: (sneaks in another box)

(12 hours pass)

Me: I wonder if my socks shipped. I will check my email for a tracking number on the order.

Site, in my email: WE HAVE A SALE GOING ON

Me: Tracking number?

Site: BUT IT'S A REALLY BIG SALE.

Me: It looks like the prices are the same as they were yesterday. Besides, I don't have the first thing! How do I know if I like your site enough to buy another thing if I don't even have one thing?

Site: WHAT?

Me: Is anyone shipping my order, or do you only have time for marketing?

Site: ONLY HAVE TIME FOR MARKETING.

Me: Well darn.
